Character
Name: Yuri Lowell
Fandom: Tales of Vesperia
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Time Period: Directly after collapsing in the desert, after the battle against Outbreaker
Wing Color: Black
History: Wikia
Personality: Due to the nobility treating the Lower Quarter like the dirt on the soles on their really nice boots, Yuri has grown to be a cynical bastard who also speaks sarcasm very fluently. He gives off that he doesn’t have a care in the world, being calm and thinking highly rational in any given situation. Relaxed, one would say. But once you really get to know him better he’s really caring and would do anything to protect someone. He mostly comes off as a big brother figure, and will not sit there and watch if someone’s in danger and he’s right there. He has a sort of grudge for nobles, and honestly who can blame him? They abuse their power and it’s sickening to him, so he high distrust for any nobles. If you happen to apart of any military, no matter what rank you are or how special you think you may be because of it, he’ll talk to you like you’re no different from any other guy. He doesn’t really know how to show manners, unless given circumstances.
He also has a high habit of teasing people, regardless of the atmosphere around him. Mainly though, he’ll do it in serious situations just to ease it out a bit. Otherwise, he’ll just do it if he’s bored enough or based on if he’ll always get a good reaction out of you. He doesn’t do pranks often, but if everything is already in place and he puts two and two together, he’ll put you in a situation to where you’ll inevitably fall into it. Although, he’ll soften it up a bit afterwards by…teasing, but that teasing usually gives you a way out of embarrassment.
Yuri’s strong sense of justice will be called by some “out of whack.” His simple way of thinking usually helps with his type of justice. If a man makes people suffer and no judicial system punishment or just any punishment in general has been given, Yuri will deal with him personally, dirtying his own hands. If protecting the innocent people of Terca Lumireis means that he has to become a murderer, a common criminal, or a traitor in the eyes of everyone, then so be it. He’ll accept any titles given to him by society. Although, it’s always in the back of his mind, that if he keeps this up, he might slowly become exactly who he hates the most. It frightens him to a degree but he keeps his cool about it, keeping his composure straight and doesn’t let sight of what’s he’s trying to gain.
“You can only see Yuri truly happy when he’s fighting,” is something along the lines that Flynn says about Yuri. This is true. He really enjoys fighting, it gives him exercise and, it’s fun to him. It’s almost sort of like a hobby for him, if you were to name one.
Yuri also enjoys hinting to everyone that he can in fact; understand what Repede is ever saying to him. It’s never exactly known if he can or not, but odds are he guesses to his best ability and usually gets lucky and understood it right. He’ll also treat you just like family if you ever get real close to him. If you need advice or support you name it, he’ll be there to give. If you’re young and close to him, he’ll give you confidence and encouragement. There’s also the inevitable teasing but that’s just his way of showing he cares. A bit. Maybe.
He has a bit of a sweet tooth and has a thing for cat ears. Most indefinitely, his favorite dessert is crepes. He can also cook very well. Since he stayed at an inn in Zaphias, a lady who ran the inn taught him how to cook. Estelle was very pleased with his cooking skills when Yuri had to make food for her. One time, Yuri had made croquettes for the party and they were highly impressed. When asked what the secret was, he said “love,” causing the party to react very hilariously in Yuri’s opinion.
He has a dislike of compliments and people who are appreciative of his good deeds when he does them. He has this weird thought that he shouldn’t be thanked for whatever he’s done, to the point where he even gives Flynn credit for what Brave Vesperia has done. He’s highly uncomfortable when people give gifts to him and he doesn’t accept them when offered, unless forcefully given. He tends to get embarrassed a bit when people thank him to a high degree and slowly tries to get off that subject and go onto something else. Some would call it being a gentleman; others may just call it strange.
Strengths:
Physical: As lazy as he seems, he's also a quite the show-off. And there's no point in showing off something if it's not all that impressive. Yuri is fit and active, exercising as a hobby more than a chore. His Bodhi Blastia helps his fighting skills during battles, allowing him to use Artes that he didn't normally learn through the knights. Although he's good with a sword, he CAN fight without it, as shown in some of his Artes, like Brutal Fang (Mash that attack button for a flurry of fists to the face!). He can hold his own in a fight, even if the power difference is highly noticeable. He won't go down without a fight, and hell, he'd probably want to be smacked around a little anyway.
Might bring some more fun to the table.
Mental: He's a genius.
Okay, there's a catch. He's a genius only in the mindset of fighting. You can talk all you want about learning this crazy, crazy move that took years for you to master, if Yuri sees an example of it, chances are he'll pick up on the move if it proves of interest to him. In a matter of seconds. It's how he learned Fatal Strike from Clint, without him even knowing he taught it to him. He sometimes doesn't even need to see it. Give him some notes on the arte, and he'll learn it through trial and error, or just Wild Mass Guessing. (See: Tiger Blade.)
He picks up information easily and is also capable of noticing things others don't.
Emotional: It's really hard to break this guy. At the most, you can anger him, but it'd be a hundred years before you could break him. He doesn't let most things try to drag him down, and instead pushes forward. What's done is done, and we have to move on. He also can be pretty happy during the most darkest things, as Duke even comments on that during the final moments before the final battle begins.
Weaknesses:
Physical: As weird and dorky as this guy is, we can't forget that he's bone and flesh. Although he's not going down without a fight, you CAN indeed take this guy down. He's no monster or beast. As a human, taking him on under certain conditions around him do matter, as shown after the Outbreaker fight in the desert; the whole cast couldn't stand from it due to heat and drought, including Yuri himself.
Mental: Anything that requires way too much thinking, he doesn't do unless he really has to. He doesn't like thinking too hard about things, and can't stand looking at something too long. He's not exactly book-smart either, as said by he himself during a sidequest with Giganto Monsters. He picks up information from the rest of the outside knowledgeable party members, and he'll usually ask if he doesn't completely understand something.
Emotional: All considering, he really, really cares about the people around him. The happy face he puts up is a huge facade, and you rarely ever know if Yuri is truly upset or not. He just doesn't want anyone worrying about him when there's bigger problems to be worried about, and usually, he doesn't need anyone worrying. He can solve his own problems himself he thinks, and if he can't, he'll keep it to himself. Or maybe even do both (See: I killed Ragou and Cumore and none of you have to hear about it.). Man's got a lot of pride, and he'd be damned to let go of it easily.
(For the strengths and weaknesses section, feel free to include powers or special abilities if they apply.)
Samples (ALL samples must be set in Luceti-verse.)
First Person: This isn't what I imagined my Hell would be like. Aren't there supposed to be...eternal burning or something? ...Well, I guess that's where the wings come in.
...Alright, this has got to be a joke. I appreciate the whole saving my life deal, but I didn't sign up to play with angels. ...Of course, this is assuming my life was actually saved. [He takes a breath.]
Seems like I'm just complaining now. This book's supposed to be some kind of communicator, isn't it? Anyone wanna do some explaining for me? I'd appreciate it.
Also...I don't particularly like freezing to death. Anyway I can get my clothes too? Geez, what a thing to get myself into...
Third Person: He was ready to face fate.
He was ready to face the fate he was given. To die in the desert isn't exactly the most appealing death, but he wasn't one to complain. Bracing himself, he was just caught in a train of bad luck.
Or so he thought.
Waking up with wings on your back was never the best way to jolt yourself up, especially after such a situation like that. It was only natural to think one had died, wasn't it? That thought was only short-lived, as the pain on his back was more concerning than anything. Not to mention his lack of clothes.
"Black, huh. Fitting." He remains coy to himself, before noticing the book lying before him. Staring, he flips through it. Maybe there's a note from his royal savior in there, or something that'll tell him what exactly is going on. No surprise, it's all blank. Looking more at it though, it seems more like a device than a normal diary.
"...This might be useful." Normally, he might've just left it there, but something was telling him to hold onto it. In the meantime, he planned to give it a better look in a different setting, listening to only his gut, no matter how crazy it truly seemed. To him, and in general.
"Damn, these things hurt. Do angels always have these problems?" He lays next to a tree under the shade, taking a good look at the flimsy cover, "Judging by the looks of things, I don't think this is powered by any blastia. ...I don't think there's a Barrier Blastia here either. Just what the hell is going on..." He ponders, nothing is making sense to him and he's thinking too much than he would want. "Damn, this is not funny..."
Putting the journal down next to him, he stops and realizes...
What exactly happened to everyone else?
